What if I receive an error message when trying to unzip or open my downloaded files?
We have tested the zip files before we uploaded them as downloadable files. However, if you have downloaded these files to a local file directory on your computer and try to unzip them, you may receive an error message such as 'warning: filename too long - truncating'.
Here is the reason. In Windows systems, the ZIP file name length is limited to 255 characters. However, since the file's path length is also counted, the actual usable file name length may be shorter. If you store the file in a longer path, the combined length of the file name and its path will exceed 255 characters.
We recommend you move the downloaded zip file to your C:\ root directory and unzip from there. You can rename the unzipped files with shorter names, then transfer the files to any other directory folder.
If you still cannot unzip the files, please contact us and we will send the unzipped files to your email manually.
Questions on Vector Maps Product
What are the file formats of the vector map?
We provide both .pdf and .ai (adobe illustrator) files, which are designed to be layered so that you can customize them more easily.
How to show and hide layers in the .pdf and .ai map file?
For .pdf maps, we recommend using Adobe Acrobat Pro to open the file. You can access the layers panel by navigating to View > Show/Hide > Navigation Panes > Layers, and then click the eye icon to show or hide layers.
For .ai maps, we recommend using Adobe Illustrator to open the file. You can access the layers panel by navigating to Window > Layers, and then click the eye icon to show or hide layers.
Please note that the menu path may vary slightly among different editions of Adobe Acrobat Pro and Adobe Illustrator.
How to convert the .pdf and .ai map file to a bitmap image?
Many software programs can help you convert the vector image (.pdf and .ai) to bitmap format.
For example, in Adobe Acrobat Pro, you can open .pdf files and export them to various bitmap formats by navigating to File > Export to > Image.
Similarly, in Adobe Photoshop, you can open both .pdf and .ai files. By selecting File > Save a Copy ..., you can convert the .pdf and .ai files to various types of image formats.
What is a pipeline map plugin?
The pipeline map plugin is an extra .pdf file that we provide to our customers in addition to the main map. It's one of the downloadable files available after placing an order.
There are two types of pipeline map plugin:
Country Map Plugin: It's a single-layered .pdf file containing the pipeline route. This plugin can be added into its associated single country map (also a downloadable .pdf file). In this way, you can view the pipeline from the geographical scope of the entire nation. You can add various country map plugins into one country map to form a pipeline network.
Branchline/Spurline Plugin: It's a multi-layered .pdf file containing the branch/spur pipeline route and its stations. This plugin can be added to its corresponding upstream pipeline map (.pdf). In this way, the branch/spur pipeline will also appear in its upstream pipeline map. To do this, you need to purchase at least 2 items: the branchline/spurline map and its upstream pipeline map.
At least one country map plugin will be included in the downloadable files of each vector map product. International pipelines will have multiple country map plugins. If both the downstream and upstream pipeline maps are available for sale in our online shop, we will include the branchline/spurline plugin as one of the downloadable files of the downstream pipeline map.
How to add a pipeline map plugin?
We recommend you to use Adobe Acrobat Pro to add a pipeline map plugin.
To add a country map plugin, first open the county map (.pdf). Then, from the options menu of the layers panel, select Import as Layer. In the Import as Layer dialog that appears, select Browse and locate the country map plugin file to import. For Import Options, choose Copy layer from source. Click 'OK' and save the country map.
Following similar steps, you can open the upstream pipeline map and add its branchline/spurline plugins.
Warning: Make sure you add the correct plugin to the intended target file. Misoperations, such as adding a Brazilian map plugin to a Russian country map, will result in an improper combination of map elements.
How to adjust the text element (position, size, color, etc) in the .pdf and .ai map?
For .pdf map file, you can use the "Edit PDF" tool of Adobe Acrobat Pro to change the text elements' font, size, color, and move their positions.
You can also use Adobe Illustrator to edit both .pdf and .ai maps. By selecting a specific layer, you can perform bulk action to change the font, size and color of all the text elements in that layer, while text elements in other layers are not influenced.
Many other graphic design softwares can help you edit the files.
How to adjust the icon symbols (position, size, color etc) in the .pdf and .ai map?
The icon symbol we designed for the map is a group of vector elements such as lines, shapes and points. You can use vector graphic editing software, such as Adobe Illustrator, to open the map file, select the icon symbol, and then you can move the selected icon symbol to other position, and scale it proportionally. To change the color, you need to select and perform the color change individually for each lines, shapes and points within an icon symbol.
You may also choose to delete the icon symbol and replace it with your own.
Questions on GIS Datasets Product
What are the file formats of the GIS datasets?
We provide two types of file formats, .kmz and .shp. Our users can open these files with various GIS softwares and convert them into other GIS formats.
What is the default coordinate system of the GIS datasets?
World Geodetic System 1984 (WGS84).
Are the GIS datasets reliable?
Our oil and gas project data are obtained through professional GIS data collection methods, including but not limited to the Global Positioning System (GPS), remote sensing technology, and geographic surveys. To ensure that the data you purchase remains up-to-date and reliable, we offer lifetime free update services. This means you don't have to worry about issues of outdated data when the project is relocated, rerouted, or expanded with new facilities.
What is the accuracy of your GIS datasets?
The combined use of GPS and remote sensing technologies in our methods provides users with the most cost-effective GIS dataset products, with a typical offset of less than 50 meters for project locations. However, the differences and conversions between map projections and coordinate systems may further lead to inevitable position offsets of over 100 meters. Additionally, due to national security concerns, some countries encrypt their publicly available GIS coordinates map system, mandating offsets of 500 to 1000 meters. Decrypting and restoring this encrypted information would violate local laws. Taking the Homeland Infrastructure Foundation-Level Data released by the Department of Homeland Security as an example, the positions of its oil and gas pipelines often have offset exceeding 5000 meters, while this is commonly referred to as "exact location".
In some cases, such as when pipelines are rerouted, significant discrepancies can occur between the old GIS datasets and the new pipeline routes. To minimize errors, we'll update these data irregularly and offer lifetime update services to users.
If you require higher accuracy, you can tender for pipeline surveying services, where engineering personnel will conduct surveys for you on-site or along the pipeline route. The prices and completion times for surveying services vary depending on the country, region, pipeline type, and other factors. Generally, pipeline surveying is quite expensive, with costs far exceeding those of the GIS datasets we provide.
Can I have a sample of your GIS datasets?
The description part of a GIS datasets product page shows you a sample of the visualized GIS datasets.
For further sample, please contact us with a specific request. Please note we only respond to serious inquiries and assess requests on a case-by-case basis.
How do I view the coordinates of GIS datasets?
You can view coordinate data through various methods. For example, you can use Google Earth to open a .kmz file and view its coordinates. You can also restore the .kmz file into .kml file, and then use Windows Notepad to open it, in which you will find coordinates data.
Are the GIS datasets mappable?
What we provide are GIS datasets for specific project, namely the longitude and latitude coordinates of plants, stations, and pipeline turning points. To design and construct a map using these GIS datasets, you need to possess GIS mapping skills and have access to additional GIS datasets such as administrative boundaries, roads, railways, buildings, and water bodies.
If you are not able to map it by yourself, you can choose to buy our vector map products for these GIS datasets. The vector map provides both .pdf and .ai files, which are layered, editable and more economical. Search the project name in our website's search bar, and you can go to the vector map product page of the project.
GIS data are too complicated for me, what if I only need a .pdf edition of map?
